Side Hustles

How Much I Made From My 5 Side Hustles in November 2021

A mediocre month, but still on track for a good year

I’ve been keeping a monthly track of my net worth since 2003. Yes, I’m a real nerd when it comes to this sort of thing. I like to measure what I’m doing so that I know if I’m heading in the right direction or not.

From 31 December 2003 until 31 December 2015, I had 12 years of growth.

From 31 December 2015 until 31 December 2020, I had 5 years of decline.

The growth years were when I had a well-paying 9–5 job. I also had a successful ecommerce store and travel blog.

During that time, my property was also mostly rising in value.

For the next 5 years, my net worth dropped for three main reasons:

  • My property dropped in value
  • I sold both my ecommerce store and travel blog
  • I started living mainly from my savings

I did have some side hustle income, but that wasn’t enough to offset the above.

I’ve now sold my property and have started investing some of the proceeds, which has helped me have what looks like could be a year of growth. It all depends on how December pans out.

November 2021 Income

November has been neither a good nor a bad month. This is what I earned from my current 5 side hustles:

#1 Index Funds

These made me a very modest $498 in November. Individual months aren’t so important though, as it’s the long-term growth I’m interested in. My best month this year was in March when my funds were up $3,462. My worst month was January when I was down $1,114.

#2 Crypto

Crypto had a decent month, with gains of $3,640. Most of this year has seen big up and down months. Volatility is high, as I expect it to be. This is one of my best investments of the year though, and I think it will do very well in the coming years. It was up $19,844 in my best month (August) and down $16,696 in my worst month (May).

I only have around 10% of my net worth invested in crypto. You can see what coins I hold at My Crypto Portfolio. You need to be a subscriber to view it. Subscribing is free.

#3 Virtual Assistant

I have decided to give this up, apart from the one client I have that I still plan to work for long-term. When the work finishes I will give this up completely and focus on my writing. Income for November was $0. I did some work, but as I only get paid in blocks for 10 hours I haven’t reach that yet. The current project is more or less finished. Another one will be starting soon.

#4 Domain Flipping

This was another month of $0 income, as I now only have a few domains left to sell. I will also give up this side hustle when the current domains are either sold or expire.

#5 Writing

I currently only write on Medium. November was my first month. I made $92.88, which is a fantastic start. I have high hopes for this side hustle. I will focus on Medium for at least a few months. After that, I might try writing on another platform as well.

You can read more about my Medium earnings for November below.

Total November 2021 Income

So total income comes to $4,138. (I’m not including my Medium income because the payment will be received in December)

My total spending was $1,448.

That means that my net worth has risen $2,690 this month.

I’m not sure why my spending is so low for this month. I usually spend much more than that. I suspect I’ve missed something somewhere.

In my December update, I’ll also include details for the whole of 2021.
