Medium Is Like Playing The Lottery For Free

I’ve had 211 winning tickets this month

I’m sure you all know what the lottery is. You buy a ticket, wait for the draw, and find out if you won nothing, a small prize, or the jackpot. Medium is just like that, except that you can enter the draw as many times as you like for free.

Not only can you enter for free, but every entry takes part in the draw every day.

That means that if you publish an article today, you’ll have a chance to win today, tomorrow, the day after, and every day that your article stays live. This also assumes that Medium doesn’t die, but I don’t think there’s much probability of that happening any time soon.

So, let’s assume you’re someone that publishes an average of just one article a day. That’s 365 articles in a year. Write here for 10 years and you’ll have amassed 3,650 articles. I’m assuming that you take a day off every 29 February.

You may publish more articles or maybe you publish fewer. It doesn’t matter. The point I’m trying to make is that all these articles take part in Medium’s daily lottery draw.

Of course, it’s not a traditional lottery. The way you win is if readers read your article. If they do, you win, you get paid. If no one reads a certain article, you get another chance to win tomorrow and every other day.

To date, I’ve published 262 stories. So far this month, 211 of those have won a prize. Those prizes range from $0.01 to almost $200.

I will keep winning every day. When you have 262 tickets in the draw it’s almost impossible not to win.

Will you win the jackpot? Maybe, but maybe not. But you’ve got to be in it to win it.

I will keep getting my free tickets every day. I’ll keep winning. How about you?
