Inever in my wildest dreams thought I could earn this much from writing. It’s not anywhere near a full-time income, but it certainly helps out in these tough economic times.

When I first started writing on Medium, I read that only around 6–7% of writers make over $100 a month. As my English teacher described my writing as average at best, I wasn’t expecting to make that much.

But it turns out that it’s not so difficult after all, as many writers don’t take the platform seriously enough.

From what I can tell, all it takes is being consistent and publishing on most days.

I’m aware that some writers make much more money while publishing less often, but I’m not at their standard. Yet.

For us average guys, it means we have to publish more often.

I may reach a better standard one day, but until then I need to publish often.

I’ve looked at other writing platforms and nothing comse close to Medium. That’s why I plan to be here long-term.

If you’re just starting out, make a plan to publish often and stay consistent.

Interacting with other writers will also help get you noticed. Medium is very much a social platform. Don’t forget that.

You could end up writing a post just like this one.

I’ve averaged $725 a month so far, although I expect that to drop a little, as we’re now in the summer slump.

June, July and August tend to be slow months for most things internet-related, Medium included.

Don’t despair if you don’t get many views over these months. Things should be back to normal by September. Hopefully, a little sooner.
