June 2022 Earnings Update — Am I Still in the $1,000 Club?

Spoiler alert — not the best month

After earning $1,695 in April and $1,081 in May, I was hoping to at least stay above $1,000 for June. I thought that was a certainty after I earned over $100 in one day on 3 June. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out quite like I was expecting.

All my stats were down in June. It was a month that started spectacularly and ended with a whimper.

Views, reads, and fans

Stats for June 2022 — Screenshot by the author

The 3rd of June saw my highest number of views ever — 4,095. That day was also only the second time I’d earned over $100 in a day.

The 30th of June saw views of just 398. That’s the worst day since January.

I wrote about this being a possible summer slump in an earlier post — Writing on Medium Isn’t All Roses — My Views Are Down 90%.

I published 34 stories in June, which is similar to last month. I have published a total of 336 stories in my 8 months here. I plan to get to 500 by the end of the year.

I plan to publish at least one story a day in July. When the views start to pick up I’ll probably switch to writing 2 articles per day. I don’t think there’s much point in writing more articles at the moment.

Audience stats

My number of followers grew by 412 to 3,759. That means I should hit 4,000 by the end of July.

Email subscriber numbers grew by 7 to 113.

I had one extra referred member early in the month but also had one leave later in the month. I have 13 referred members, just like last month. I don’t expect this to change much, if at all in July.

Earnings

I earned $948.70 for June.

It’s a little disappointing compared to April and May.

Update 2 July: Today, my earnings for June have changed to $955.33. I don’t know where the extra $6.63 came from.

But if I look back to my first month last November, my June earnings are 10X higher. That’s pretty impressive.

If your stats are disappointing, it’s always a good idea to zoom out and look at longer timeframes. If you’d told me back in November that I’d earn $900 in June, I’d have called you crazy.

It’s funny how something that seems crazy can become disappointing in so little time.

My top story in June earned $166.56. Amazingly, this one was self-published.
